Explosives located near Government Way; Rendered safe by SPD

Spokane Police responded to a report that several sticks dynamite had been located in a wooded area off of Government Way. Government Way was closed for several hours while the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) rendered the dynamite safe.

Today, 12/21/14, at approximately 2 p.m., Spokane Police received a report that dynamite had been located in a forested area across the street from 1200 N. Government Way. A person with a metal detector had located multiple sticks of dynamite buried metal barrel. The person contacted a nearby church and police were called.

Spokane Police Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) technicians, as well as other officers, responded to the scene. Government Way was closed between W. Sand Ridge and Fort George Wright Dr. for several hours.

The Explosive Disposal Unit rendered the dynamite safe and roads were re-opened.
