Spokane Police were called to a potential hostage situation tonight in north Spokane. Officers were able to successfully secure the release of the male victim who was reportedly being held at gunpoint, then continued to negotiate with the suspect until he peacefully surrendered. Michael P. Wang (32) will be booked into Spokane County Jail for several unrelated warrants and additional charges are being looked into at this time.
Just after 9:00pm tonight, March 10, 2016, Spokane Police responded to the report of a male holding another male at gunpoint in a room at the Apple Tree Inn at 9500 N. Division. Once on scene, officers were able to establish contact with inside the room and secure the release of the victim male. The males are known to each other, but their exact relationship is unclear at this point.
Officers had been advised the subject had threatened “suicide by cop” and was armed with at least two handguns. He also had warrants; two felony warrants for 2nd Degree Theft and one misdemeanor warrant for 3rd Degree Driving on a Suspended License.
Resources from the SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams were called in an effort to bring this situation to a peaceful resolution. After nearly three hours of negotiations, Wang surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He will be booked at this time for his warrants and officers are continuing their investigation into additional charges stemming from tonight’s incident.
