Spokane Police Officers responding to a robbery in north Spokane were able to apprehend the suspect, Zachary Trejo, within 20 minutes of the crime, in part due to very thorough descriptions provided by both the witnesses and victim in the incident.

Just before 8:00pm this evening, June 26, 2016, Spokane Police officers responded to The Hillyard Mini-Mart (5803 N Market) on the report of a robbery.

The victim was assaulted with a skateboard after confronting a shoplifter. The suspect then fled on foot from the store. The victim and several witnesses provided responding officers with a very good description of the suspect, as well as the location he was last seen.

As officers were preparing to start a K-9 track, Officer Chan Erdman saw the suspect near the intersection of Regal and Sanson. The suspect began running through yards and was caught after a short foot pursuit.

21-year-old Zachary S Trejo was arrested on a charge of First Degree Robbery and booked into jail.

Without the safe involvement of the witnesses, the suspect would not have been caught in such a short time. The Spokane Police Department reminds everyone to keep their safety in mind when witnessing and reporting crimes, as was done in this incident.
