The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is investigating a shooting in downtown Spokane. This evening, patrol officers responded to the report of a person wounded in a shooting in the area of 2nd Ave. and Post St. The shooter has been detained and there is currently no danger to the community. Lincoln at 2nd will remain closed for the next few hours as the investigation continues.

Tonight, May 30, 2017, just before 10:00pm, Spokane Police Patrol Officers responded to the area of 2nd and Post on the report of a shooting. While en route, the alleged shooter called in to 911 and identified himself. He was on scene and cooperative when officers arrived. The firearm believed to be involved, as well as all parties involved, have been accounted for and there is no outstanding danger to the community.

Investigators are looking into what, if any, relationship there was between the two parties and what transpired prior to the shooting. The Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU) was called to the scene to collect footage from surveillance cameras in the area. Any witnesses to the incident who have not already talked to officers are asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

Officers arrived on scene within 3 minutes and immediately rendered first aid, but the adult male who sustained the gunshot wounds succumbed to his injuries before he was able to be transported to the hospital. His name will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lincoln St. at 2nd Ave. is currently closed and people are asked to use the Maple/Ash corridor as their alternate route for the next couple of hours while investigators process the scene.
