Suspect Arrested After Pointing Rifle at UGM

After a brief pursuit, the Spokane Police Department arrested Nicholas McRae (35) for multiple felonies. Sergeant Vigesaa saw McRae drive slowly past the Union Gospel Mission while pointing a rifle out the window of the vehicle. McRae fled in his vehicle and on foot but was eventually captured. McRae was booked for Attempting to Elude and Felony Hit & Run.

On June 1st, 2017, at approximately 3:12 pm, Sergeant Vigesaa with the Police Anti-Crime Team saw Nicholas McRae point a high powered rifle at the Union Gospel Mission located at 1224 E. Trent Avenue. Sergeant Vigesaa believed McRae had or was about to commit an assault on the Union Gospel Mission.

Sergeant Vigesaa attempted to stop McRae ’s vehicle but McRae failed to stop which started a short vehicle pursuit. McRae ’s vehicle struck two vehicles in the area of Trent Avenue and Hamilton Street causing minor injuries to the citizen drivers. McRae ’s vehicle was stopped with an intervention technique near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Riverpoint Boulevard. McRae ran from the vehicle and was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

A rifle with drum magazine and a revolver were visible inside McRae’s vehicle. McRae ’s vehicle was seized pending a search warrant to collect evidence. Additional charges could be forthcoming.

The roadways are open and clear of police activity.
