On 05/11/19 at approximately 1100 hrs., Spokane Police Officers responded to the report of a vehicle theft from the area of the Shadle Safeway located in the 2500 block of W Wellesley Ave. The owner of the vehicle had accidentally left the keys inside their vehicle while going into to a nearby business. The victim later observed the suspect get into his older Ford F250, with his dog, a fridge, and thousands of dollars’ worth of tools in the back. The vehicle description was sent out to the working Officers to attempt to locate the stolen truck.
Approximately one and a half hours later, the truck was located by Officers, occupied, in the 100 block of E. Sinto Ave. The same suspect the victim had observed steal his truck, was still driving the vehicle. The truck was recovered with the dog, fridge, and all the tools still inside. The suspect was arrested, and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Vehicle Theft and Theft 2nd.
Spokane Police would like to remind everyone not to leave your keys in an unattended vehicle for any length of time. Please remember to keep your vehicles locked, with all valuables out of sight. We offer the same recommendations for commercial vehicle drivers, and workers, as we have also seen work vehicles and tools stolen. With the warmer weather, we all tend to leave our windows down and vehicles unsecure, but take a few seconds to secure your vehicle which could save you from a loss of property and money.
