On 09/16/2019, at about 1825 hours, Officers were dispatched to a possible wanted subject at Fred Meyer in the 400 block of South Thor Street. The caller advised the wanted subject was getting into a brown and white older Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Officers arrived on-scene and noticed the Dodge Ram driving through the parking lot. Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop on that vehicle by activating their emergency lights but the vehicle took off. The vehicle went through the parking lot almost striking a couple of pedestrians who were walking from the store. The vehicle then exited the parking lot and started headed the wrong way on 3rd Avenue, which is a one way going eastbound.
Due to safety reasons, Officers did not pursue the vehicle. About a half block later, the vehicle lost control and ran into a tree. The driver, identified as 18 year old Anthony Kain, got out of the vehicle and started to run.
Officers were on-scene quickly and were able to take Anthony into custody without incident. A check of Anthony’s name revealed that he had a felony Department of Corrections warrant for dangerous drugs and a misdemeanor theft warrant.
Anthony was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Attempt to Elude a Police Vehicle, DUI and DWLS 3rd degree. Anthony was also booked on his two warrants.
Fortunately no pedestrians or other drivers were injured in this case.
