December 20, just after 6:30PM, Spokane Police responded to the 100 block of W Gray Ct., for the report of an occupied burglary. Residents of an apartment advised they returned home to find two burglars inside their residence. One suspect fled the scene and the second suspect barricaded himself inside the residence claiming to be armed. Upon the arrival of the Spokane Police Officers, a perimeter was set up around the residence. The suspect failed to follow the verbal commands by the Officers to exit the residence.
Based on the high level of threat with the barricaded suspect claiming to be armed, SWAT team members, Hostage Negotiators, and K9 Units all responded to the scene. After executing a search warrant on the residence, the male suspect was located inside a closed bedroom. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
At the time of this press release, the suspect was not cooperating with the investigation, and was placed under arrest for Residential Burglary and Obstructing. The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident highlights another example of how the deployment of the highly trained Officers from the SWAT team, Hostage Negotiators, and K9 Officers were utilized to bring a very dangerous incident to a peaceful resolution while protecting the safety of the community, the involved Officers, and the suspect.
