The first incident was reported to police at 12:11 AM, when a vehicle left the roadway on Hamilton at Illinois, drove over a street sign and crashed into a building.  The driver of the car was the only occupant and did not survive the collision.  Preliminary indications; are no other person or vehicle was involved and a medical issue may have played a role.   The investigation is ongoing.

A second collision was reported to SPD around 4:20 AM just west of Flint Road and Highway 2 where a car struck a pedestrian on the Highway.  Police and Medical personnel responded and rendered aid, the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. The driver of the car was cooperative and has not been charged with anything at this time. The Investigation is ongoing.

Law Enforcement had received complaints earlier in the morning of a pedestrian in the roadway on Highway 2 in the area of the collision however; no one was located at the time of those reports.

Both west and eastbound traffic were closed on the highway for some time and did not open back up until about 7:00AM.

Both of these investigations are in their preliminary phases.  The Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit Traffic Investigators would like anyone with information regarding either of these incidents who has not spoken with police to contact us by calling crime check at 456-2233.
