On March 23, 2020, an Officer from the Spokane Police Department’s Downtown Precinct responded to a commercial burglary in the area of 1100 W. Sprague Avenue. The location is low income housing complex for seniors aged 62 and older. This is a secure facility that is only accessible with the use of a tenant’s key fob.

Due to the current COVID-19, these residents, given their age, are a vulnerable population.  They have signs on the entrance that say, due to COVID-19, they are asking only immediate family members or care-takers access the building for residents at this time. The common room area in the building was also closed due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols.

Sometime over the weekend, a 50” flat screen television was stolen from the wall mounted bracket in the common room.

Based on video obtained from the common area, the Downtown Precinct Detective sent pictures of the suspect to Downtown Officers to help identify him.  On March 26, 2020, Officer Dotson was able to identify the suspect and locate him downtown.

The Detective responded to the location and conducted an interview.

The suspect, Jeramy E. Johnson (42), confirmed he did not live in that apartment building.

Probable Cause was established to arrest Johnson for the theft of the television. He was arrested and transported to the Spokane County Jail where he was booked for Burglary 2nd Degree and Theft 3rd Degree.
