The Spokane Police Department wants to make you aware the phone number to the West Spokane C.O.P.S. office has been “Spoofed”.
C.O.P.S. which stands for Community Oriented Policing Services is a local nonprofit agency that has been active in Spokane since 1992. The organization is comprised of neighbors throughout Spokane who work alongside the Spokane Police Department to help mediate neighborhood issues, and facilitate numerous programs to reduce crime and improve our community.
Over the course of the afternoon the office has received numerous calls indicating the office is actually the Spokane Police Department. Please remember the Spokane Police Department will not solicit any funds, fines or money of any kind, for any reason, over the phone. The West Spokane COPS office is not calling anyone for these purposes either. Please be patient until we can get the problem addressed.
Spoofing: is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity.
