Suspect in custody for downtown stabbing that resulted in a homicide last year

On March 29, 2023, Taylor A. Rogers (30) was brought before a judge to face charges of murder in the 2nd degree for stabbing Jimmie E. Bailey (46) last summer.

On June 11, 2022, at 8:30 pm SPD officers were dispatched to the area of W. Pacific Ave and S. State St.  in Downtown Spokane regarding a stabbing.  Officers discovered the victim, Jimmie Bailey (46) had been stabbed and was being transported to a local hospital.  Several days later Bailey succumbed to his injuries.

SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) began investigating and was able to identify the suspect as Rogers after reviewing surveillance cameras in the downtown area.  Detectives also discovered Rogers was arrested in Spokane Valley the same night, after the stabbing and before he had been identified, for DUI and domestic violence charges.  While Rogers was in jail for the unrelated offense, MCU detectives were able to establish probable cause to arrest Rogers for Bailey’s murder.  After Rogers served his time in prison for prior criminal charges, he was booked into Spokane Jail for Murder 2nd degree.

Rogers has 10 prior felony convictions to include: burglary (two counts), criminal mischief (five separate counts), robbery, controlled substance possession and theft in the first degree.
