Fatal Collision on Alki Way

Lt. Terry Preuninger

Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 8:40 a.m.

The Spokane Police Department, Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Valley Fire Department and multiple AMR units responded to a deadly car crash tonight on Alki Way at Broadway Ave at 8:20 PM.

The initial investigation and witness statements indicate the at fault vehicle (a small four door hatchback) was West bound on Broadway at very high speed. It appears the car lost control in the curve where Broadway turns into Alki Way and then swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic and struck a truck head on. The at fault vehicle was occupied by three people, one was killed in the collision the other two (one of whom was partially ejected) were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck did eventually seek treatment at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

All of the above information is preliminary however the initial evidence indicates speed was a factor in this collision. The SPD Major Crimes Traffic Unit has responded and is conducting the investigation.

More information will be made available at a later time. Alki Way will be closed between Havana and Broadway for at least four hours.
