2/29/24 Update:

Murder suspect pleads guilty, sentenced to 11 years in prison

On 2-28-24, Jose M. Mathews (43) pled guilty to 2nd degree murder and was sentenced to 134 months in prison along with 36 months community custody.  The victim was 27 year old Darnell W. Pluff.

7/13/23 Update:

Murder suspect arrested by SPD’s Major Crimes

Earlier today, 7/31/23, Major Crimes detectives arrested Jose M. Matthews -42- in the shooting death of a man found near a business on Division Street on 7/14/23. Matthews was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a 2nd Degree Murder charge. The investigation is ongoing.

SPD Major Crimes investigating the death of a person found outside a building on the north side as a homicide

Just before 11:30pm last night, 7/14/23, police responded to a call of a possible shooting in the 5200 block of North Division. Patrol officers arrived  to find a male slumped over next to a building suffering from trauma. Medics provided life saving measures to the man but despite their efforts, he did not survive.

This is an ongoing investigation. More information will be released as warranted.
