On 08-07-23, SPD patrol officers responded to the 3000 block of E Mission Ave on the report of an unconscious assault victim lying in a parking lot. Officers arrived and located a gravely injured victim who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives took over the investigation. After evaluating physical evidence, talking to witnesses, and reviewing security camera footage, investigators determined the victim was likely struck with a skateboard causing him to fall to the ground, after which he was repeatedly kicked.

MCU detectives were able to identify the two suspects as 18-year-old Quentyn Tyndale and 19-year-old Justin Haylett.

On 08-10-23, both Tyndale and Haylett were arrested for Assault 1st degree.

On 08-15-23, despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Detectives submitted affidavits upgrading the charge for each suspect to Murder 2nd degree.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone with information about this incident who has not spoken with investigators is asked to call crime check at 509-456-2233, and reference incident 2023-20156797.
