SPD seeks assistance in identifying suspect in attempted carjacking

On 1/07/23 at approximately 4:45am, a man was putting fuel in his vehicle at a gas station in the 3100 block of East 17th Ave.  The man was the only one at the gas station and there was no one inside. As noted in this surveillance video, as the man was filling his car, an unknown male walks up to the gas stall and hides on the opposite side of the pump. He waits for a few moments, then walks around the pumps and forcefully pushes the victim to the ground. The suspect then gets into the victim’s car and attempts to turn it on, but when unable to do so, the suspect exits the vehicle and runs off.

Fortunately, the 82 year old victim suffered only minor physical injuries but relayed that he feared for his life.

Detectives are asking for your help identifying the suspect seen in these pictures and video. If you have any information that may assist in identifying and locating the suspect, call Crime Check and reference case #2024-20005351. The suspect is also a person of interest in other crimes.

SPD reminds you never to leave your keys or fob in your vehicle, even when you are nearby.
