SPD completes investigation into SCSO sergeant’s actions in the arrest of a man last August, charges forwarded to prosecutor.
In October of 2023, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Spokane Police Department conduct an independent investigation into an arrest and use of force by one of their deputies on 08/14/23. SPD Major Crimes conducted a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actions of Sgt. Clay Hilton. On 02/21/24 SPD forwarded the complete investigation to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office including an affidavit establishing probable cause for 2nd Degree Assault.
The case will now be reviewed by the Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges will be filed. The SPD’s role in this investigation is now complete. To protect the integrity of the investigation and any further proceedings, SPD will not make further comment at this time. Any additional information will be released in accordance with the Public Records Act and standard dissemination protocol.
