On May 7th, 2025 at 12:28pm SPD responded to a reported fire in the 500 block of east North Avenue. The initial report to 911 was that a tree was on fire. As officers arrived on scene, they observed a shed and a tall pine tree fully engulfed in flames as well as nearby fence. The resulting fire began to emit embers that were landing in the yards of nearby homes which created additional smaller grass fires. Spokane Fire quickly responded to put out the fires.
SPD conferred with on scene Fire Investigators and it was determined the fire was deliberately set. Officers began interviewing witnesses and discovered a vehicle was observed leaving the alley just prior to the fire. The driver of the vehicle appeared to be a female. This information was obtained via a nearby security camera. With this information, SPD continued its investigation into the incident. On May 8th at approximately 9:20am, officers located the female suspect in the arson. Jessie R. Green (34) was taken into custody in the area of 5th and Cook and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Arson. If you witnessed the incident or have additional information that may help investigators, please contact Crime Check at 509.456.2233.
