On May 22nd, the Spokane Police Department Traffic Unit conducted an emphasis patrol for Click It or Ticket. The goal of the emphasis was to encourage people to drive safely and wear their safety belts as required by state law. Over the eight-hour enforcement emphasis, 123 infractions were written, including but not limited to 24 speeding tickets, 17 cell phone violations, 33 seatbelt violations and 22 violations for no insurance. Additionally, 8 drivers were arrested for suspended driving and one driver was arrested for not having an ignition interlock device. This snapshot gives an idea as to how many drivers are operating their vehicles unsafely, distracted and/or while not wearing safety belts on any given day.
The SPD Traffic Unit is committed to the safe movement of all traffic throughout the City of Spokane. This includes vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. We encourage everyone to travel safely so we can all get home to our loved ones every day.
