Resident suffers from smoke inhalation after early morning fire

A resident was transported to an area hospital after a fire broke out in his apartment early this morning.

Just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, the Spokane Fire Department to the Mt. Vernon Apartments in the 3100 block of S. Mt. Vernon St. after neighbors reported hearing the sound of smoke alarms.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an apartment filled with smoke and a man inside suffering from smoke inhalation. The incident was upgraded to ensure additional resources responded. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain it to the involved unit. The occupant of the apartment was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigations by the Spokane Fire Department’s Special Investigation Unit.
