With the kickoff of the Thanksgiving weekend, Black Friday, and the holiday shopping season, the Spokane Police Department is offering tips to citizens to reduce and prevent vehicle prowling.

The attached flyer will be distributed during regular and foot patrols over the Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend and throughout the holiday season. Citizens are reminded: “It’s your stuff. Keep it.”

Remember these tips to help avoid vehicle prowling:

  • Don't leave valuables in plain sight.
  • Lock vehicle doors.
  • Park in a well-lit or high traffic area.
  • If you see a crime in progress, call 911. Call Crime Check at 509.456.2233 to report a crime that has previously occurred.

Help SPD to keep crime down:

  • Crime in the City of Spokane is down more than 12% year-to-date.
  • Larceny (vehicle prowling and other types of theft) is down nearly 10% year-to-date.
