Spokane Police Investigating Body found in the Spokane River

On 06/19/2016 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Spokane Police officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the Spokane River south of Mission Park.

Two young girls were exploring the area while attending the Summer Solstice swim meet at Whitter Pool. They spotted what appeared to be a body in the brush a few feet away from the bank. The immediately contacted an adult who called SPD.

Officers responded with the Spokane Fire Department and confirmed that this was a deceased person.

Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and requested the assistance of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team. They were able to recover the body.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased person and the manner of death when determined.

Spokane Police Major Crimes Detectives will continue to investigate this incident.
