Spokane Police Detectives are investigating a shooting in Manito Park today. The victim has been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

This morning (August 20, 2016) at about 11:30am, officers received a report of a woman shot at Manito Park. The first officers arrived within 4 minutes and immediately began administering medical care to the victim. The risk to the public in the park was immediately apparent; roughly two dozen officers worked rapidly to secure the park and ensure the safety of our citizens. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The people involved are believed to have known each other; we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to our community at this time.

Our officers performed extremely well as always today, as they immediately rendered medical aid to the victim, while simultaneously working diligently to remove the significant threat to all our citizens in the park, despite the huge area, many people in the park, and high mid-day temperatures. We want to thank the many patient witnesses and good Samaritans who provided information that allowed our officers to move quickly ensuring the safety of others in the park.

Detectives continue to investigate and ask that anyone who has not talked to officers yet might have information about this incident to please call Crime Check at 456-2233.
