Fatal shooting in East Central neighborhood
SPD is currently investigating a shooting incident in the 3100 block of E 5th Ave. Shortly before 10:30PM on 04-28-19, SPD was advised of shots being heard in the area. Officers arrived on scene and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began rendering first aid, and the male was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff the male did succumb to his injuries.
SPD Major Crimes Unit detectives are on scene investigating. 5th Ave was closed from Haven to Greene to facilitate evidence collection, but will be reopening shortly.
Investigators are following up on multiple leads. This incident does not appear to be random, however the nature of the relationship between involved parties and circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation.
