Early Morning Collision

Sgt. Terry Preuninger, PIO

Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 1:23 p.m.

At approximately 6:00 AM SPD responded to a head on collision on the Freya Way Bridge between Mission and Trent. A Vehicle traveling north in the north bound lanes failed to navigate the turn coming across the bridge, and jumped the concrete lane divider, crossing into the south bound lanes. A vehicle traveling south was struck by the vehicle crossing into his lane causing a head on collision. Due to the speed and proximity the south bound driver could not evade the at fault car.

The driver of the southbound car was transported to the hospital by a private party and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the at fault vehicle had to be extricated by the Spokane Fire Department. He was then transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The passenger of the at-fault vehicle was observed “hobbling” away from the collision and has not been located. SPD traffic investigators responded and are conducting an investigation for the crimes of vehicular assault and DUI. SPD would like to speak with the passenger that left the scene, to check on his wellbeing and ask him questions about the collision.
