The Spokane Police Department wants to remind the members of the community that we respect the rights of those wishing to speak, assemble, and protest. These activities are protected so long as those participating abide by the law and refrain from violent behavior.
The Spokane Police Department may place reasonable restrictions on the time, place and manner of public protest activities in order to maintain order. This may include separating groups with opposing viewpoints to maintain a safe environment for all present at the location.
This Saturday there will be an event at the downtown library similar to an event that took place last weekend on the South Hill. The Spokane Police Department wants to thank everyone that cooperated with us last week and kept the event a civil exercise of our First Amendment rights. We hope the same standard of civility will be applied tomorrow by those of you who choose to take part in the weekend’s activity.
