On 08/19/2019 the Spokane Police Night Patrol Anti-Crime Team (P.A.C.T) performed a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle driven by Jesse R. Woodward. Jesse was wanted on an outstanding Felony Department of Corrections (DOC) warrant for Escape. Jesse was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was safely taken into custody. Night PACT was granted a search warrant for the vehicle as they noticed items of evidentiary value. The search warrant was granted by a Superior Court Judge and inside of the vehicle was a very real looking replica of an assault rifle. The replica rifle weighed approximately six pounds which is extremely close to an authentic assault rifle. Also in the vehicle was a reported stolen handgun, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Prescription Medication and drug paraphernalia.
Jesse was booked into the Spokane County Jail on his outstanding warrant. Additional charges will be filed against Jesse.
A constant reminder that convicted felons are not to purchase, handle, store or otherwise be in possession of any firearm.
This is just another example of how replica firearms can be virtually impossible to distinguish from functional weapons, especially in dynamic circumstances. Criminals possessing these items can utilize them to facilitate a variety of crimes, and can create violent encounters with Law Enforcement or responsibly armed citizens. We are thankful in this incident the suspect was taken into custody without incident, and numerous items of contraband were confiscated.
