Single Vehicle Fatality Crash Closes Ferry Ave. For Several Hours

Ferry Avenue was closed this afternoon between Altamont and Haven as investigators processed the scene of a single vehicle motorcycle crash. The adult male motorcyclist, who was in his mid-thirties, was westbound on Ferry when he struck a light pole. Despite life-saving efforts of both construction workers who witnessed the crash and medical personnel called to the scene, the rider succumbed to his injuries.

This afternoon, just before 3:00pm, Spokane Police responded to the report of a single vehicle crash just east of Ferry and Altamont. Witnesses reported the motorcycle was on fire and citizens on scene were starting CPR on the rider. The fire was extinguished by the civilians on scene. Despite the best efforts of both the constructions workers and medics, the male died at the scene.

Numerous witnesses reported the motorcycle was seen traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, westbound on Ferry, just prior to crashing. Major Crimes Collision Investigators responded to the scene to process evidence.

If there were witnesses who did not talk to officers on scene, or businesses in the area that captured video surveillance of the crash, please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

This is a stark reminder that though the temperatures have dropped, there are still plenty of motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians sharing the roads with the rest of traffic. Please take the time to look, look, and then look again. We can all work together to keep our roads safe.
