Lt. Terry Preuninger

Monday, April 24, 2023 at 8:12 a.m.

The Spokane Police Department is currently in the 2100 block of West Sharp Ave searching for a gunman after a reported shooting.  At 4:00 PM a male called 911 from a residence in the 2100 block of West Sharp and said a man had just shot at him.

Patrol units responded to the 2100 block of W. Sharp for a reported shooting. Initial reports stated that a man had shot at the victim but missed. The Victim stated that he wasn’t hit however he was trapped upstairs while the suspect was on the main floor.

Upon arrival Officers established verbal contact with the victim through an upstairs window, and began to evacuate people from the home while simultaneously looking for the suspect.  One of the occupants was an immobile - disabled child who needed to be removed to safety by officers.

It was unclear to patrol where the gunman was, they were receiving conflicting information, that he was both still in the home and had fled.  There was visible evidence of gunfire to substantiate the initial victims report.

SPD SWAT, Hostage negotiators, the Explosive Disposal Unit, the Air unit and the Spokane Valley Fire Department were all called in to assist on the call.

SPD SWAT officers executed a search warrant at the residence after using a robot and other resources to search the home and surrounding area.  The suspect has not been located at this time and SPD is continuing the investigation which includes attempting to locate the suspect.
