SPD arrests prolific burglary suspect with additional investigations ongoing

On 2-4-24, The SPD Stolen Property Enforcement and Recovery Team (SPEAR) completed an in-depth investigation into a string of burglaries in Spokane.  It was a combined effort between SPEAR Unit detectives and SPD patrol officers.  Critical information was obtained from victims as well as neighbors that helped investigators put all of the pieces together.  It was determined that the burglar entered the victim’s homes by kicking open back doors and breaking rear windows.  The primary items stolen during these burglaries were jewelry, cash and electronic items.

Stephen P. Hinsen (32) was booked into the Spokane County Jail for five counts of residential burglary and two counts of 2nd degree theft.  Hinsen has prior arrests for residential burglary and was currently out on bond.  The investigation is ongoing as detectives are working on additional cases that are believed linked to Hinsen.  Hinsen has extensive criminal history with prior felony convictions for trafficking stolen property and theft.
