SPD’s investigation into a shooting on 2-16-24 continues, multiple arrests made, one person deceased

On 2-16-24 just after 1pm, SPD responded to a shooting incident that took place in North-East Spokane.  Officers located the suspect vehicle, but the suspects refused to stop.  The vehicle was finally brought to stop using a PIT maneuver in the area of Springfield and Hamilton.  Items had been thrown from the vehicle before officers were able to bring the pursuit to a halt with one of the recovered items being a firearm.

As officers safely removed the suspects from the vehicle, it was discovered that a female occupant had suffered a gunshot wound to her head.  Officers rendered aid until medics arrived and the female was transported to a local hospital where she was later declared deceased.  SPD Major Crimes is continuing the investigation into her death.  The name of the female deceased will be released at a later date by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The remaining suspects were transported from the scene and interviewed by Major Crimes Detectives.  The following suspects were arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail: 

Christopher J. Gimmaka (18 )  1st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1st degree robbery and three counts of 1st degree assault.

Kayden W. Willoughby (18) 1st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1st degree robbery and three counts of 1st degree assault.

Devin B. McEwen (18) 1st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1st degree robbery, three counts of 1st degree assault and attempt to elude a police vehicle. 

A fourth suspect (16) was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for 1st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1st degree robbery and three counts of 1st degree assault. 

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
