Several weeks ago, Spokane Police Special Investigations Unit became aware of several related thefts from victims at a Hospice facility in Spokane. The suspect was a caregiver in the facility. The facility was able to identify her as a suspect in the three cases as she was the only employee working during the time frame of all thefts. She was immediately placed on leave by the facility pending the outcome of the investigation.

The suspect stole debit cards of people dying in the facility or family members visiting the facility and used the cards to purchase lottery tickets at numerous different stores and gas stations in Spokane. She then redeemed the tickets for cash.

Today Spokane police arrested the suspect, Leena Anderson (41) after tying her to the three different thefts. She was charged with 3 counts of Identity Theft 2nd, 3 counts of Possession of Stolen Property, and 3 counts of Money Laundering.

Based on the investigation, Spokane Police believe there are potentially more victims that have not reported thefts. If anyone had a loved one in a hospice facility in Spokane and later saw suspicious charges on their bank account records, specifically cash ATM withdrawals or Washington Lottery charges, they are requesting you report the case to Crime Check (509-456-2233) and flag the report to Detective L Taylor.
