The cause of a fire at a duplex in North Spokane remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit.

Yesterday at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Spokane Fire Department responded to the 6300 block of N. Altamont St. on a report of a residential structure fire.

The first arriving fire crew reported heavy smoke and fire issuing from the home. The incident was upgraded to ensure additional resources responded.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive coordinated attack to ensure the fire was contained to one unit and did not spread to additional parts of the structure. Crews rapidly conducted a search of the building to ensure there were no occupants inside. Two pets were rescued unharmed from the home.

A total of 26 firefighters including automatic aid companies from Spokane County Fire District 9 responded to fight the fire. The fire was contained and extinguished within 20 minutes of fire crews arriving on scene.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
