At 7:33 PM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to a report of an explosion and subsequent vehicle fire in the area of 2nd/Cedar in the Browne's Addition Neighborhood. The first engine arrived within three minutes and reported a recreational vehicle (RV) fully involved in fire. The incident was upgraded due to finding an occupant of the RV which required immediate care, and a fire that was threatening to spread to other vehicles and endanger lives.

The victim of the fire is identified as a male in his 50's that had suffered critical burns from the explosion. He was treated by SFD Paramedics and transported immediately to Sacred Heart by ambulance. He was transferred after being stabilized to the burn unit at Harborview in Seattle.

The fire was contained to the RV and was not allowed to spread. The nature of the fire has been determined as accidental, and the cause was mechanical, resulting from attempted engine repairs.
