At 6:55 PM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm sounding at 1403 West 7th Avenue, Spokane Addiction Recovery Services.

Shortly after the alarm was transmitted, 911 received calls indicating that there was a working fire in the basement of the building. Fortunately, the alarm had immediately notified the ten residents that were occupying the building to quickly and safely evacuate.

SFD companies arrived within five minutes of dispatch and noted a working fire in the basement and on the exterior of the three-story structure. Firefighters simultaneously had to work in high heat and smoke conditions in the basement to locate and extinguish the fire, as well as attack the exterior fire that was extending vertically up the structure.

The fire was successfully contained to the basement area, exterior stairs, and flooring structural members to the first floor. The building and contents saved are valued at over a million dollars, and SFD limited the damage to an estimated $15,000. Residents from the building have been related temporarily until the damage is repaired. The nature of the fire has been determined as accidental, and the cause was electrical.
