Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies involved in Officer Involved Shooting incident (O.I.S.). The incident is being investigated by the Spokane Investigative Regional Response (SIRR) Team.
Just after 7 p.m., 911 received a call from a male indicating he was suicidal, had weapons and wanted law enforcement to kill him.
Local law enforcement agencies attempted to locate the male. He indicated he was traveling on I-90 into the Spokane Valley. The male continued contact with 911 dispatch as he traveled eastbound on I-90. North Idaho law enforcement agencies located the male on I-90 in Idaho. They engaged in a pursuit that headed west toward Spokane County.
Spokane Valley Sheriff’s deputies took over the pursuit at the state line. The male exited the freeway at Sullivan and stopped at the intersection at Indiana and Sullivan. A short time later, deputies advised that shots had been fired and requested medics respond to the scene. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has additional information to call Crime Check at 509.456.2233.
Due to the fact that this was an Officer Involved Shooting (O.I.S.), the Officer Involved Fatal Incident Protocol was enacted. The SIRR Team is on-scene investigating the incident. The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Liberty Lake Police Department, Airway Heights Police Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
