Early morning stabbing in north Spokane becomes another homicide.

This morning, a little before 6 a.m., a 911 call was received from a distraught female who was reporting a stabbing at a residence in the area of 900 E. Princeton Avenue. The female stated her boyfriend stabbed her ex-husband numerous times then fled the location.

Officers arrived on scene, immediately called in medics and secured the crime scene. Unfortunately, after lifesaving intervention at the scene and a transport to an area hospital, the victim did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

A large perimeter had been established.  K9 Officer Buchmann and his partner Trace responded to track the suspect identified as 19-year-old, Edward A. Martinez.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to take over the investigation.

While tracking the suspect, a citizen tip came in alerting the police to the location of Martinez. Officers located him in the area of Broad Avenue and Helena Street where he was taken into custody without incident. Martinez was transported to the detective’s office to be interviewed.

Martinez was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st degree Murder.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date when appropriate.
