Children under 10 years of age must be under direct supervision of an adult at least 18 years of age. Rationale: Younger children must have supervision while at the pool in case of emergency. Also, having adult supervision at the pool decreases the chance of a child having a traumatic near drowning experience.
Infants and toddlers must wear a swim diaper. Regular diapers are not allowed in the water. Diapers must be changed in designated changing areas.
Rationale: Regular diapers fill with water and fall apart inside the pool.
Only swimsuits are allowed in the pools. No inappropriate dress or jean/khaki material items are allowed in the pool.
Rationale: Certain materials scratch the slides and play structures. Buttons and zippers can fall off and get stepped on or damage our filtration system. Additionally, inappropriate swim wear takes on a lot of water and becomes heavy which makes it harder to swim.
Properly fitting, Coast Guard approved life jackets only. No inflatables such as arm bands, baby floats, etc. Flotation devices must be worn correctly and anyone requiring the use of a flotation device must be within arm’s reach of an adult.
Rationale: Any flotation devices that aren’t Coast Guard approved means that they are not accepted as a life saving device. Kids wearing life jackets need to be supervised so that they don’t get stuck in deep water or stuck face down in the water.
Toys are not allowed in the facility, e.g., inflatables, dive toys, kick boards, baby dolls, balls, or snorkels.
Rationale: Toys are not allowed because they tend to get thrown around the pool and hit people. Snorkels are not allowed because the longer a swimmer remains submerged; the harder it is to tell if they are having a medical emergency.
You must be at least 48” tall to ride the big slides and no more than 48” tall to go on the play structure.
Rationale: People shorter than 48” tend to get stuck in the current at the bottom of the slide and need assistance from a lifeguard to get them out. People over 48” may hit their head in the play structure slide resulting in a potential medical emergency.
A swim test must be taken to use a diving board and/or swim in the deep end.
Rationale: Ability to pass an extensive swim test shows us that someone will be capable of jumping into the water from a high place and are competent enough to get themselves back to a wall.
Divider ropes and lane lines are used to separate deeper sections of the pool. Hanging on the ropes is prohibited.
Rationale: Hanging on the ropes puts strain on them causing them to unravel and possibly causes damage to the facility equipment.
All persons must shower before entering the pool.
Rationale: Showering before entering the pool helps to ensure a clean and safe swimming environment.
No food or drink allowed in the water.
Rationale: Spilled food, drink, and trash compromise the chemical balance of the pool water.
No glass, in any form, in the aquatic facility.
Rationale: Broken glass in the water is impossible to see and results in us having to drain our facility and fully sweep the entirety of the pool.
No person with a communicable disease, skin infection, open wounds, or anyone who has been sick with vomiting or diarrhea within the last two weeks may use the pool.
Rationale: If you are sick, you should stay home so that you do not get others sick.
No persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs are allowed inside the pool area. The park in its entirety is a smoke and alcohol-free area. This includes electronic cigarettes.
Rationale: Swimming while under the influence of substances is very dangerous and can result in a severe medical injury.
No touching/hanging on the lifeguard chairs or attempting to distract the lifeguards in any way.
Rationale: Distracting the lifeguards takes their attention away from patron surveillance.
No running, pushing, throwing, dunking, breath holding, excessive splashing, carrying someone on your back, or horseplay of any kind.
Rationale: These activities can result in injury and/or near drowning accidents.
You must jump in the water feet first facing forward.
Rationale: Diving, spinning, or jumping in backwards can cause injury.
Fighting, vandalism, harassment, PDA, inappropriate language, or violent behavior will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from the facility.
Rationale: This is a family-friendly facility and should be a comfortable place for children to have fun.
During periods of inclement weather, the facility may be closed, as determined by staff.
Rationale: If any weather is deemed potentially unsafe, we cannot allow our staff to work. Also, if weather in any way prevents us from seeing the bottom of the pool we must close.
The City of Spokane is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available for use at each facility. Personal lock required.
Rationale: We don’t provide locks, so it is up to you to secure your items.
Any persons with seizure, heart or circulatory problems should swim with a buddy.
Rationale: In case of an emergency, it is best for you to have a companion that has knowledge of your condition nearby. They can help recognize and save you as well as explain your condition to the medical staff for the quickest response time.
The facility will close to the public 15 minutes after the closing whistle. This means you must leave within 15 minutes.
Rationale: We have other programming after open swim and all patrons must be out of the facility before our staff is allowed to start preparing for those programs in accordance with our safety precautions.
Staff must always be obeyed and have the authority to suspend pool privileges for those individuals who repeatedly violate rules or policies.
Rationale: Our policies and procedures are made to ensure the safety of all our patrons. If a patron is not willing to listen to the staff that upholds these policies, we cannot trust this patron to help us maintain a safe environment.
