At 5 AM this morning, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to a report of a house on fire in the 1700 Block of East Wellesley Avenue. The fire was reported to 911 by a passerby that observed smoke coming from the outside walls and the roofline of the home. After hearing the audible smoke alarms, the passerby stopped and attempted to notify the residents by knocking on the door, which resulted in no response.

The first company arrived within minutes to find heavy smoke showing from the presumed single-family residence. Companies immediately forced entry into the structure to search for victims. Simultaneously, engine companies were locating and extinguishing the fire. The fire was quickly contained within 15-minutes, and the damage was limited to the room and immediately adjacent areas of origin. The house was vacant; however, it was being used as a transient camp. The fire is under investigation.

The structure and contents saved are estimated at $200,000. Damage from the fire are estimated at approximately $15,000.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters as a result of this fire.
