At 8:11 AM this morning, the Spokane Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house on fire in the 2900 block of East 16th Avenue. The fire was reported to 911 by a passerby that observed smoke coming from the roof-line of the home. The passerby stopped and attempted to notify the residents by knocking on the door, which resulted in no response.

The first engine company arrived within minutes to find smoke showing from the eaves and chimney of the single-family residence. They immediately forced entry into the structure to search for victims in zero-viability conditions as the smoke had banked down to the floor level. No victims were found. The house had recently been purchased and was vacant. Simultaneously, engine companies were locating and extinguishing the fire. The fire was quickly contained within 15-minutes, and the damage was limited to the area of origin with smoke damage throughout the residence. The fire is under investigation by the SFD Special Investigations Unit.

The structure saved is estimated at $240,000. Damage from the fire is estimated to be less than $15,000.

There were neither injuries to civilians nor firefighters as a result of this fire.
