Just after midnight on Sunday morning, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to the 5000 block of North Stevens to a report of a fully involved garage fire. Nearby fire companies from Spokane Fire District 9 also responded as the automatic aid plan always selects the closest resources. First arriving companies reported a fully involved, detached garage fire. The fire was quickly extending to neighboring structures, including an occupied residence. Firefighters extinguished the fully involved garage fire within 5-minutes. The home threatened by the fire was evacuated as a contingency; however, their attic and adjacent spaces were determined to be safe, and they were eventually allowed to return to their home.

The loss of residential electrical service impacted at least one home as the garage fire burned power lines above it. Avista quickly responded and was able to restore function to affected customers.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there were no injuries as a result of this incident. The garage was a total loss, including a vehicle parked next to the garage.
