Before the first cars roll across the newly repaired Maple Street Bridge, Mayor Lisa Brown and the City of Spokane are welcoming the community to experience the bridge in a unique way.
While crews finish up final work on the south side of Maple Street, the Spokane community is invited to a two-hour “Bike the Bridge” event, a special opportunity to bike, walk, and roll on the bridge before its planned reopening to cars. This two-hour event builds on similar community traditions like Summer Parkways, which opens city streets to multi-modal and human-powered transportation.
“The Maple Street Bridge carries thousands of Spokanites to work, school, and their homes every day,” Mayor Lisa Brown said. “Before it returns to its everyday role, we wanted to create a moment for the community to come together and see the bridge from a new perspective.”
Bike the Bridge
Date: Thursday, June 25
Time: 4-6 p.m.
Location: Maple Street Bridge.
Cyclists and pedestrians can access the bridge from the north at W Dean Ave and from the south at W 2nd Ave and W Pacific Ave. Pedestrian access is available from the N Ash stairs near the N Maple St Parkway, as well as the W Riverside stairs to the south. The on-ramp at Riverside on the east side of the bridge will be blocked.
About the Project
The 5th to Maple Street Bridge project included a grind and overlay of existing pavement, curb ramp upgrades to meet ADA standards, as well as a sidewalk widening near an overhead traffic sign pole on Maple St. The majority of the project was completed in 2025, with the grind and overlay postponed to June 2026 due to industry strike.
The Maple Street Bridge will fully reopen to cars Thursday night at 8 p.m.
