In observance of the Independence Day holiday, the Waste to Energy Facility will be closed on Saturday, July 4. Because the Fourth of July is on a Saturday, garbage, recycling, and food & yard waste services will be on a normal schedule. City Hall will be closed on Friday, July 3.

Here are some additional closures and cancellations for the Independence Day holiday:

  • On-street paid parking meters and kiosks will not require payments on Saturday, July 4, but remember, even when parking is free on holidays, all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.
  • The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be closed on Friday, July 3.
  • Spokane 311 employees will not be available for in-person, phone, or online customer service inquiries. The public can go to Spokane311.org 24 hours a day to submit a request on Friday, July 3.
  • Development Services Center employees will not be available on Friday, July 3.
  • All Spokane Public Library locations will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4.
  • The City’s six aquatic centers will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
  • Spokane City Council meetings will resume on Tuesday, July 14, with an 11 a.m. agenda review and a 1 p.m. committee meeting, and on Wednesday, July 15, at 6 p.m., the legislative meeting. Meetings are shown live on CityCable 5, the City’s government-access cable station, and are streamed on Facebook and the web at spokanecity.org.

Meanwhile, many activities are planned for the holiday. The Riverfront Summer Carnival presented by ICCU is open from Wednesday, July 1, through Sunday, July 5. The thrilling five-day event promises to deliver loads of fun and excitement. The grand finale of the Riverfront Summer Carnival is the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration & Spokane Symphony Concert on Saturday, July 4.

Splash pads and golf courses are also open. For splash pad information, go to the aquatics information on the web. For golf course information, visit www.spokanegolf.org.

The City of Spokane Fire Department reminds everyone that the sale and use of all amateur (consumer) fireworks is illegal in the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Millwood, Liberty Lake, and the unincorporated areas of Spokane County. Firework fines are $536 for each infraction. Remember that if it lights, it’s illegal; this applies to sparklers too. Residents can report violations by calling Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

Residents can dispose of unwanted fireworks in the household hazardous waste area at the Waste to Energy Facility. There is no disposal cost.
