Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has directed that all flags at City facilities be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Governor Bob Ferguson’s directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered in remembrance of former Washington State Senator and Representative Samuel “Sam” Hunt.
“Senator Hunt was a colleague of mine in the Washington State Legislature,” said Mayor Brown. “He was a good friend to Spokane and Eastern Washington, and a top fan of the WSU Cougars. I send my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Senator Hunt passed away on April 26, 2026. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Saturday, May 30, or first thing Monday morning, June 1.
