Spokane Police investigate Safeway robbery

Spokane Police Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred this morning at approximately 1 a.m. at the Safeway on W. Northwest Boulevard. The suspect entered the store, was stealing items from the store and threatened to shoot an employee when he was confronted. The suspect fled on foot. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509.456.2233.

This morning, just after 1 a.m., Spokane Police Patrol responded to a report of a robbery at the Safeway store in the 1600 block of W. Northwest Blvd. Officers were on-scene two minutes after the initial call.

Witnesses told officers that a black male, in his 30’s, approximately 5’ 7” tall, with a medium build, entered the store with a bag and began taking items. He started to walk out of the store and was confronted by an employee. When confronted, the suspect threatened to shoot the employee. No weapon was seen. The suspect fled on foot. A K-9 track was initiated but did not locate the suspect.
