Traffic Impacts Starting Monday, May 4th

City of Spokane’s 2026 construction season continues with projects impacting traffic starting Monday, May 4th. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be alert for frequent traffic changes. Please slow down for everyone’s safety and make the extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. This year’s work includes integrated projects to maintain and improve utility infrastructure, fresh street surfaces, new traffic configurations, and improved sidewalk and pedestrian routes. 3rd Avenue between Howard Street and Bernard Street

This is a section of a project that resurfaces 3rd Avenue with a grind and overlay between Stevens and Division Streets. ADA curb ramps will be replaced where needed. Access to businesses will be maintained. Work will start Monday morning, May 4th and is expected to be completed by early July.

What to Expect:

  • Drivers will experience lane reductions and congestion eastbound on 3rd Avenue between Lincoln Street and McClellan Street.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained, please make extra effort to support them during this challenging time.
  • Slow down for everyone’s safety, be alert, and if traveling through, consider an alternative route.

Washington Street between 8th Avenue and 2nd Avenue

The Washington and Stevens corridor will undergo improvements with a project that resurfaces southbound Washington Street between 8th Avenue and 2nd Avenue. A curb-to-curb grind and overlay, aging water main pipe replacement, stormwater management improvements, and ADA curb ramps will be replaced where needed. Access to businesses will be maintained. Work will start Monday morning, May 4th and is expected to last a few months.

  • Drivers will experience lane reductions and congestion southbound on Washington Street between 9th Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained, please make extra effort to support them during this challenging time.
  • Slow down for everyone’s safety, be alert, and if traveling through, consider an alternative route.

Arterial Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon Locations

This begins a $1.5 million project to enhance pedestrian safety by installing four Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon signals on busy arterials. Work begins Monday, May 4th at two locations and is estimated to be completed in mid-July.

What to Expect:

  • Market Street at Columbia Avenue near Hillyard Aquatic Center will experience lane reductions and slowdowns.
  • Nevada Street at Cozza Drive will experience lane reductions and slowdowns in all directions.
  • Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
  • Allow for extra time or plan for an alternative route.
